“Patch is most likely next week. Right now on PTR training dummy (while still gemmed for combat), I’m pulling 6000 dps sustained, while the very best combat parse peaks at 4600 (thats on a dummy under 30% health). In PTR raids guilds are getting mutilate to 3000 dps over combat.

Is this going live, seriously? no raiding rogue is going to bid dkp on anything but daggers, nor will any serious guild allow a combat spec into a raid. I mean, what’s the plan here for all the axes swords and maces that are gonna drop – there is not enough enhancement shamans for that, really.

And please don’t embarrass yourselves people by posting garbage like “combat has faster target switching, better aoe, better energy regen”… and all the other crap ive seen. The ONLY advantage combat has over mutilate is Blade Flurry every 2 min for 15 sec, and the ability to save up AR for vulnerability / burn down phases. THATS IT. mutilate DOES NOT switch targets or fan of knives or regen energy any worse than combat. and point is: even if every last ICC boss will be twins standing next to each other, with lots of burndown phases in every fight… that’s not even remotely enough to make up for a baseline 2500 dps deficit. ”

Training Dummy DPS is irrelevant, fights with adds, target switching, or burn phases will continue to heavily favor Combat Rogues.

I don’t think that in a raid setting Mutilate will be ahead.

This is our stance. Meanwhile, all the rogues who want to try out something besides Combat have an opportunity. “

If it appears to come out as Mutilate coming out decently far ahead still after 3.3 is released and it shows through, will there be changes? Or will Mut be left as the higher damage tree since combat has cleaving. Just curious, so just in case it rains very true that I can be prepared to either wait patiently or switch specs.

Yes, there would be a change. The goal is not to get every rogue to go Assassination. The goal is to give you options. If Combat totally out-performed Assassination even on a target as simple as a static dummy then we can’t see why anyone would try Assassination. I know some of you are concerned that the Mutilate buff was too high. We’ll have some better real-world (not that it is a “real world”) soon ™. “

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t you also say:
1) Weapon swapping is only a theoretical / spreadsheet increase in rogue DPS. We are not worried about this.
2) There maybe some theoretical evidence to support this, but we don’t think the majority of the rogue player base will do this.
3) We don’t want “How to play a Rogue” to start with download this addon.
4) We disabled the addon

IDK, seems like you were wrong about a lot recently. Why should I be expecting anything different on this one?

I realize you’re sort of trolling here, but aren’t your #3 and 4 the same? To be fair, it was a very good add-on that took out a lot of the risk of failure that we thought might originally discourage every rogue from picking it up.

Regardless, if we were never wrong about anything, then you wouldn’t see so many patch notes. It’s an evolving game and we’re not afraid to make changes when we think they’re necessary. That doesn’t mean the right answer becomes to rush off and implement every change suggested or demanded in the forums. πŸ™‚ “

The poster has very good points. Energy regen, aoe, and burn phases are almost identical. He was right in saying, “The ONLY advantage combat has over mutilate is Blade Flurry every 2 min for 15 sec, and the ability to save up AR for vulnerability / burn down phases.” which is correct.

I could be over looking something but from this post it looks like GC is saying “well we want combat to be the only raiding spec but if players want to try something else that is less effective then they are welcome to.” He over looked what the poster asked about the crazy dps boost mut got with the poison change. “Deadly Poison: In addition to its existing effects, when a rogue applies Deadly Poison to a target which has already reached the maximum number of applications, this will also trigger the poison which the rogue is using on his or her other weapon.” He didn’t even address warrants question, he gave him the answer that he asked him not to give him πŸ™‚

  1. GC seems to do that a lot, that is, he answers questions not asked.

When they put the poison change in a few weeks back, I knew that it was going to significantly boost my DPS, especially in situations where I can stay on a single target. I don’t know how much of a boost it will be overall, but on paper it looks pretty sweet.

As far as Combat Rogues go, I play alongside a comparably geared one most of the time and we’re both pretty competitive with each other. I win the single target battles and he tops the meter on fights that require a lot of target switching. It will be interesting to see what happens in our friendly weekly competitions.
